    Ingredients for Instant Pot rice

    • Rice: I like to make this recipe with Jasmine rice. Basmati or long grain white rice will also work well with this method.
    • Water: Nothing complicated here, tap water is just fine. To add more flavor to your rice, you can swap the water for vegetable of chicken stock.
    • Salt: A little salt helps to add flavor to the rice as it’s cooking.

    How to cook white rice in the Instant Pot

    • Rinse rice and drain well.
    • Add rinsed rice, salt and water to the Instant Pot. Lock the lid and turn the valve to ‘sealing’. Pressure cook rice on High Pressure for 3 minutes. NPR for 10 minutes.
    • Release remaining pressure, and carefully, open the lid. Fluff rice with a fork.

    Can you make it ahead of time?

    Yes, this Instant Pot rice will keep well in the fridge for up to 4 to 5 days and it also freezes well too for up to 3 months. Frozen rice should be thawed before reheating.

    To reheat cooked rice, it’s best to do this in the microwave. Place a couple of teaspoons of water with the rice in a microwaveable bowl and cook on high for 3 minutes until it is piping hot.

    Can you make this Pressure Cooker rice recipe with brown or wild rice?

    This recipe is for white rice, but you can easily adapt this recipe for brown rice. The water to rice ratio stays the same, but you will need to cook it on high pressure for 15 minutes and then naturally release the pressure for 5 minutes.

    If you want to cook wild rice in the Instant Pot, you will need to add a cup and a half of water for each cup of rice and cook it on high pressure for 15 minutes and then naturally release the pressure for 10 minutes.

    Recipe Notes and Tips

    • Rinse your rice well under cold running water before adding to the Instant Pot. This will help to remove the starch so that your rice doesn’t get clumpy and gluey. This will ensure nice and fluffy rice.
    • If making ahead of time, let the rice cool completely before storing and only reheat it once.
    • The ratio of water to rice is 1:1 and this Instant pot rice recipe is easily doubled or tripled.
