Ingredients for Dry Rub
This BBQ dry rub is made with a mix of:
- brown sugar, packed (or coconut sugar for Paleo/Whole30)
- smoked paprika
- onion powder
- garlic powder
- kosher salt
- black pepper
- paprika
- cumin
- dried mustard powder
- chili powder
- cayenne pepper
How to make homemade dry rub
- Simply mix all of the ingredients together. It’s ready to use straight away or store for later use.
How do you use it?
I love to use this spice rub on baked chicken wings, chicken breasts, ribs, steak, brisket and it’s great for making pulled pork. Just rub a tablespoon or two over the meat with your hands and then cook. If you prefer a wetter marinade, you can mix this seasoning with some oil.
How long does this dry rub keep?
Depending on how fresh your spices are, this seasoning will keep well for between 3 and 6 months. Store it in an airtight jar or container in a cupboard so that it’s out of direct sunlight and it doesn’t get too hot or too cold.
Recipe Variations
This dry rub is the perfect blend of sweet and smokey, and it has just a hint of spice from the cayenne and chili powder. This spice rub is not overly spicy at all, but if you are particularly sensitive to heat, you can skip the cayenne. If you would prefer a rub with some herby qualities, then you can add in a tablespoon of dried herbs like oregano or parsley.
