How to make BBQ chicken wings

    • Preheat the oven to 400 degrees and line your baking sheet with parchment paper. Cut the wingette and drumette if they are not cut.
    • In a large bowl toss the chicken wings with the oil, salt, and pepper then line up on the baking sheet in a single layer.
    • Bake until wings are crispy and browned for 45 minutes.
    • Remove the wings and add them to a large bowl and toss them with the barbecue sauce.
    • Bake them for additional 5 minutes.
    • Serve them warm with your favorite sides.

How do you prep baked chicken wings?

Before you toss your wings in the oil and seasonings, pat them gently to remove any excess moisture. This will help to stop the wings from drying out and the skins will get nice and crispy. Be sure to put them on a baking sheet in one layer so they cook evenly.

    Variations on barbecue chicken wings

    • Honey BBQ: Add a little bit of sweetness by stirring in a few tablespoons of honey in the BBQ sauce. You could also stir in some maple syrup instead if you like maple-flavored bbq sauce.
    • Spicy BBQ: you can make these baked wings spicy by adding some hot sauce, Sriracha or chili to the BBQ sauce. Be careful not to add too much.

Can you make them ahead of time?

It’s best to cook these bbq wings when you are ready to serve them so that they are nice and crispy. You can prep them ahead of time and toss them in the oil and seasonings so you just need to pop them in the oven and toss them in the sauce.

If you have leftovers, they will keep well in the fridge for up to 4 days. Reheat these bbq chicken wings in the oven at 400F for 10 minutes so that they get nice and crispy.

Can you make them on the grill?

Yes, you can make these barbecue wings on the grill. Grill them for about 30 – 40 minutes or until the internal temperature reaches 165 F.
