Why you will love this Honey Mustard dressing recipe!

  • Made from scratch: Store bought dressings are often loaded with sugars and salts, as well as preservatives to keep them shelf stable. This is made with all natural ingredients and a lot less sugar and salt.
  • Quick and easy: Just add all of the ingredients to a jar, shake and it’s ready to use.
  • Cheaper: It’s way cheaper to make your own dressings. Most of the ingredients are shelf-stable, so you are able to make several batches with the things you do need to buy.

Honey Mustard Salad Dressing Ingredients

  • Honey: Honey natural sweetens this dressing and works wonderfully with the tangy mustard. Use a raw and natural honey for the best flavor and added health benefits.
  • Dijon mustard: Dijon adds a nice sharp tanginess to the dressing. For a milder flavor, you can use whole grain mustard with mustard seeds or yellow mustard.
  • Apple cider vinegar: The vinegar helps to balance out all the flavors. Apple cider vinegar is my go to, but white wine vinegar, rice vinegar, or even lemon juice would both work great.
  • Oil: I prefer to use light olive oil for the dressing, I find that extra virgin olive oil can be too overpowering. Any other light and neutral oil will work well. Alternatively, you could also use mayo.
  • Sea salt and ground black pepper to taste.

How long does it keep?

This honey & mustard dressing will keep well in the fridge for up to 3 weeks. Store it in an airtight container or mason jar with a lid to keep it fresh. It’s ready to use straight from the fridge, just give it a little shake first as the ingredients may separate. It’s best not to freeze it as the flavors can be affected.

Can you make it vegan?

You can easily make this honey mustard vinaigrette plant-based by simply swapping the honey for maple syrup. It will have a slightly different flavor, honey has a more floral taste and maple is more woodsy, but it will be delicious either way!

In your “Tips” you mention artificial honey. What is this? I am not familiar with any honey that is not real.

FYI we use an old Tupperware salad dressing container meant for shaking as well. Perhaps you remember it with the sort of conical orange top.

There are several honey substitutes or imitation honey on the market.

    Question – is the 99 calories for 1 T. or 2T?

    1. Neli Howard says:

Hi Beth, the calories are per serving. This means, it’s 2 Tbsp in this recipe.
