    Grilled Shrimp Ingredients

    • Olive oil
    • Lemon juice: Use fresh lemon juice rather than bottled, it’s so much more flavorful.
    • Spices: (smoked paprika, onion powder, cumin, salt, black pepper) smoked paprika adds sweetness and smokiness that is ideal when you grill.
    • Minced garlic: Mince the garlic as finely as you can so that it releases as much flavor as possible
    • Red pepper flakes: Optional. I like to add some for a little kick of spice.
    • Shrimp: The shrimp should be deveined and peeled before marinating them.

    How to grill shrimp

These grilled shrimp skewers are so quick to make and are great for busy weeknight dinners. And this grilled shrimp marinade is so good and easy to make. The marinade infuses the shrimp with amazing flavors – garlic, lemon, and smoked paprika.

    1. Marinade. Mix together olive oil, lemon juice, smoked paprika, garlic, red pepper flakes, and salt in a mixing bowl. Add the shrimp to the bowl and mix until coated. Let shrimp marinate for 30 minutes.
    2. Thread shrimp. After the shrimp has marinated, thread shrimp on presoaked skewers.
    3. Grill shrimp. Preheat the grill (or charcoal grill) to medium heat, oil the grates and grill the shrimp skewers for 2-3 minutes per side until opaque. Serve warm.

How To Tell if Shrimp is Cooked

You will know when your shrimp is cooked when it turns from grey and translucent to pink and opaque (meaning you can’t see through it). Also when they’re done, their tails will curl slightly.

Can you use frozen shrimp for this recipe?

I prefer to use raw shrimp, but you can use frozen if that’s what you have. Before marinating the shrimp, make sure they are full thawed, shelled and de-veined, and then continue with the recipe.

How long should you marinate the shrimp?

The shrimp should be marinated for 30 minutes to allow them to take on the flavors. It’s best not to marinate them longer than this. The lemon juice in the shrimp marinade can actually start to break down the shrimp and they can become soft and mushy.

Can you grill shrimp ahead of time?

It’s best to cook these grilled shrimp as soon as you are ready to serve them, after all, cooking shrimp on the grill is quick & easy. If you have leftovers, you can store them in an airtight container and they will keep in the fridge for up to 3 days. You can serve them cold over salad or very gently reheat them in the oven.

    Recipe Notes and Tips

    • Preheat the grill and oil the grates before adding the shrimp.
    • If you are using wooden skewers, be sure to pre-soak them before threading the shrimp.
    • Peel and devein the shrimp before marinating so it can soak up all the flavors.
    • Be careful not to overcook the shrimp, they only need 2 to 3 minutes on each side. Otherwise, it will turn rubbery and chewy.
    • Only flip the shrimp once. When they are ready to flip, they will release from the grill.
    • You can also grill the shrimp in your favorite grill pan on the cooktop if the weather isn’t nice or you don’t want to fire the outdoor grill.
