Dalgona coffee has been my go-to hot drink for the last few weeks. It’s wonderfully fluffy and easy to drink, and I will never say no to a little caffeine boost!

This Dalgona recipe is a great treat when you need a boost of energy, and is most enjoyable when drunk alongside my Banana Nut Chocolate Muffins or Carrot Cake Bars!

What is Dalgona Coffee?

Dalgona coffee originates from South Korea and has taken the Internet by storm since January 2020. It was first aired on the social media platform TikTok and afterward, the TikTok coffee recipe spread quickly on all other social media channels.

Dalgona means “it’s sweet” and is a popular South Korean spongy candy that is sold by street vendors. Dalgona whipped coffee can be served hot or cold and is wonderfully sweet and creamy. To make this whipped coffee recipe, equal parts of instant coffee, sugar, and water are whisked together until fluffy and then poured on top of milk.

Ingredients

You need just 3 ingredients to make this whipped coffee. Add it to warm or cold milk and enjoy the newest fancy coffee trend.

  • Instant Coffee: Nothing fancy here, just use your favorite brand.
  • Sugar: Use granulated sugar. You can also use low-carb or Paleo sugar replacement products.
  • Water: A little boiling water is added to the coffee and sugar to help it dissolve.
  • Milk: You can use hot or cold milk for this recipe, depending on your preference.
  • Ice: This is optional. You can serve the drink hot or pour it over ice.

Recipe Notes and Tips

  • If you don’t have an electric mixer, you can whip the ingredients using a handheld immersion blender or even a milk frother for individual servings. You can also use a whisk to whip it by hand but it will take you a little bit longer.
  • Best instant coffee for Dalgona coffee – I use Nescafe Classic. But you can also use decaf coffee as long as it’s instant coffee.
  • Serve it warm or cold. Serve over cold milk and ice for a cooling summer drink, or hot for a warm and cozy beverage.
  • Stir whipped coffee with the milk before drinking.
  • You can double or triple this recipe if you desire, just keep the ratios the same.

How to drink Dalgona Coffee

Serve over milk and ice for a cooling summer drink, or hot for a warm and cozy beverage. Either way, it tastes amazing. Don’t forget to snap a picture to show to your friends. After that, you can stir it and enjoy it. Don’t drink it without stirring it to avoid consuming separately just the milk or the sugary strong coffee.

Recipe FAQs

Can you make it ahead of time?

It’s best to make this Dalgona coffee recipe only when you are ready to enjoy it, or you will risk losing the air in the whipped coffee.

What is the best milk to use?

I like to use whole milk which is super creamy and rich, but any milk will work well. You can make this drink non-dairy or vegan by using plant-based milk like oat or almond milk.

This looks like dessert. I think I can make this without screwing it up and having it taste as delicious as what is served in the coffeehouse. I think I will give this recipe a try.
