Crispy sweet potato fries baked in the oven served with a smoked paprika garlic dip. An easy and healthier homemade snack or side dish.
Healthy Sweet Potato Fries
These oven-baked sweet potato fries are a healthier alternative to regular deep-fried or baked French fries. Crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. They are just as tasty but much healthier to make at home to serve along with your juicy burger or as a snack. And that sweet potato fries dipping sauce – it’s the perfect addition to your plate.
Sweet potatoes are nutritious and full of vitamins and are a good source of fiber. They are also naturally Whole30, Paleo, and gluten-free.
How Do You Cut and Make Sweet Potato Fries
Cut the sweet potatoes in 1/4-inch thick slices, then cut each slice in 1/4-inch thick sticks. I personally like to peel the skin but you can also leave it on if you prefer.
To make the homemade sweet potato fries, toss them with olive oil and season them with smokey paprika, garlic powder, rosemary, salt, and freshly ground black pepper. This seasoning is simple and brings out the delicious sweet flavor of the sweet potatoes. Bake them in a preheated oven for about 30 minutes, flipping them once halfway through. Tips & Tricks for the Best Crispy & Delicious Sweet Potato Fries
If you are wondering how to make sweet potato fries crisp, follow these easy tips for the best sweet potato fries.
- Cut evenly-sized sweet potato fries. This helps them cook evenly.
- Coat them in starch (either cornstarch, tapioca, potato starch or arrowroot starch). This will help crisp the fries as they bake.
- Use parchment paper. Using parchment paper will prevent the fries from sticking to the sheet and will help them crisp up nicely.
- Don’t overcrowd the baking sheets. Make sure the potato fries are in a single layer and not overcrowded. Allowing air between the fries will help them roast better.
- Flip all fries halfway through baking. After about 15 minutes of baking, take the baking sheets out of the oven and flip the fries so they all brown evenly on all sides.
- Let the sweet potato fries rest for about 5-10 minutes. After the fries are done baking, transfer them to a cooling rack and let them rest before serving. This will help them crisp up a little bit more.
- If you have a convection setting on your oven, use it. This helps air circulate constantly which promotes quick and even baking and crispy potatoes.
Dip For Sweet Potato Fries – Smoked Paprika Aioli
One of my favorite dipping sauce for sweet potato fries is this smoked paprika garlic aioli. The smokey and salty flavor perfectly complements the crispy sweet potatoes. It’s made with mayonnaise, minced garlic, smoked paprika, garlic powder, lime juice, and salt & pepper. I also like to use this dip for topping chicken, fish, sandwiches, and burgers but you can also dip shrimp, veggies, and snacks.

I found this recipe while searching for a dipping sauce for sweet potato fries. I didn’t follow the recipe for the fries exactly (just used olive oil, salt and pepper), though I did follow the tip to use my convection setting to make the fries crispier. But the sauce, oh the sauce! One of the best sauces I’ve ever made. Was perfect for sweet potato fries. I’m looking forward to making the fries again just to have the sauce!
If we are costing with starch, should we do that before/after the oil & seasoning?
So excited to try !
You can coat them with starch when you season them after you toss them with olive oil. You don’t need a lot of starch, just enough to coat them. Hope you enjoy it!
This aioli sauce is so good! I’ve used it for sweet potato fries, but also we love putting it on Philly cheesesteak sandwiches.

It’s dried rosemary.
Not only were these surprisingly easy to make, but they are far better than any restaurant version I have ever had! Enjoyed every bite!
These sweet potato fries came out perfectly seasoned and crispy and the aioli was a tasty dipping sauce.
