Why you will love this recipe!

  • Quick and easy: Cooking perfect rice has never been so quick or so easy. You don’t need to babysit the pot on the stove. Just let the Instant Pot do it’s thing!
  • Simple ingredients: There’s nothing fancy you need for this simple side dish, I’m willing to bet money you won’t need to plan a special trip to the store.
  • Versatile: Rice is a great side dish to serve with so many mains, from Indian and Thai curries, to Chinese stir fry to grilled chicken and meats.
  • Consistent & Steady Results: Cooking rice in a pressure cooker ensures consistent results every single time. There is no water loss through evaporation, and the heat and the cook time is the same every time which results in perfectly fluffy rice without a fail.

Ingredients for Instant Pot rice

  • Rice: I like to make this recipe with Jasmine rice. Basmati or long grain white rice will also work well with this method.
  • Water: Nothing complicated here, tap water is just fine. To add more flavor to your rice, you can swap the water for vegetable of chicken stock.
  • Salt: A little salt helps to add flavor to the rice as it’s cooking.

Can you make it ahead of time?

Yes, this Instant Pot rice will keep well in the fridge for up to 4 to 5 days and it also freezes well too for up to 3 months. Frozen rice should be thawed before reheating.

To reheat cooked rice, it’s best to do this in the microwave. Place a couple of teaspoons of water with the rice in a microwaveable bowl and cook on high for 3 minutes until it is piping hot.

Can you make this Pressure Cooker rice recipe with brown or wild rice?

This recipe is for white rice, but you can easily adapt this recipe for brown rice. The water to rice ratio stays the same, but you will need to cook it on high pressure for 15 minutes and then naturally release the pressure for 5 minutes.

If you want to cook wild rice in the Instant Pot, you will need to add a cup and a half of water for each cup of rice and cook it on high pressure for 15 minutes and then naturally release the pressure for 10 minutes.

What do you serve it with?

This Instant pot jasmine rice is great to serve with so many meals. We eat rice usually every week, and this Instant Pot method makes it so easy. Serve it with any of these mains:

TIPS FROM NELI’S KITCHEN

Recipe Notes and Tips

  • Rinse your rice well under cold running water before adding to the Instant Pot. This will help to remove the starch so that your rice doesn’t get clumpy and gluey. This will ensure nice and fluffy rice.
  • If making ahead of time, let the rice cool completely before storing and only reheat it once.
  • The ratio of water to rice is 1:1 and this Instant pot rice recipe is easily doubled or tripled.
