Why you will love this mimosa recipe!
- Healthier: I’m not going to try and convince you this is a super healthy recipe, but when it comes to cocktails this is a great choice! Under 100 calories a glass and lots of vitamin C!
- Great for a crowd: It’s so easy to make up a large batch of this classic mimosa recipe, so it is a great option if you are entertaining!
- Simple and easy: If you are not a pro mixologist, then this is a foolproof cocktail for you!
Ingredients
- Champagne: Traditionally made with champagne, but you can also use Cava, Prosecco, or your favorite sparkling white wine.
- Orange juice: Use fresh orange juice with no added sugars or preservatives for the tastiest and healthiest option.
How to make the best mimosa
- Pour the sparkling wine into the Champagne flutes, filling each glass about half full.
- Pour the orange juice on top to fill each glass and serve.
- You can garnish each flute with a small slice of orange.
Can you make them up ahead of time?
These sparkling cocktails are best poured when you are ready to serve them. If you pour them too far ahead of time, they won’t be chilled and the champagne will lose its fizz. If you are making a big batch, you could add the orange juice to the glasses, then top up with chilled champagne to serve.
What’s the difference between a mimosa and Bellini?
These are two very similar cocktails that are perfect for brunch. Where mimosas are made with orange juice, Bellini’s are typically made with peach puree. The puree is frozen so it keeps the drink colder for longer.
Can you use another type of fruit juice?
Mimosas are traditionally made with orange juice, but you can try them with other juices if you like. Grapefruit juice, apple juice, cranberry juice, watermelon juice, or pineapple juice can all be used.
Mimosa Variations
- Add Flair with Flavored Syrups: Infuse your mimosas with extra flavor by incorporating flavored syrups. Consider options like raspberry, peach, or even lavender syrup to complement the citrus notes and add a touch of complexity to your drink.
- Go Beyond Orange: While orange juice is a staple, don’t limit yourself – explore a rainbow of possibilities with other fruit juices. From tangy tangerine to exotic mango juice or pomegranate, you can craft unique mimosa variations.
- Play with Ice and Frozen Fruit: Keep your mimosas icy cold without diluting the flavor by using frozen fruit as ice cubes. Frozen berries, slices of citrus fruits, or even grapes can add a pop of color and keep your drink chilled to perfection.

TIPS FROM NELI’S KITCHEN
Recipe Notes and Tips
- Chill Ingredients: Make sure that both the champagne and orange juice are well chilled before mixing. I like to pop it in overnight so that it’s nice and chilled.
- Use Quality Ingredients: Opt for a good-quality champagne and fresh-squeezed orange juice for the best flavor.
- Ratio Matters: The perfect ratio for mimosas is typically equal parts champagne and orange juice. However, you can adjust this ratio to suit your taste preferences – some prefer a bit more champagne for a stronger kick, while others enjoy a more juice-forward flavor.
- Garnish Creatively: While a simple orange slice makes for a classic garnish, feel free to get creative with additional garnishes like fresh fruit like blueberries and raspberries, maraschino cherry, pomegranate seeds, mint leaves, edible flower, or citrus twists. Fresh herbs like rosemary or thyme would also be a great addition.
- Serve Cold: Mimosas are best enjoyed when served cold, so keep them chilled until ready to serve. You can also use chilled glasses to maintain the temperature.
- Variations: Experiment with different flavored champagnes or add a splash of orange liqueur like Grand Marnier for a stronger orange flavor, or peach schnapps for a unique twist on the traditional mimosa.
- Virgin mimosa (aka non-alcoholic mimosa) – use sparkling water instead of champagne.
